I bought a bunch of FMH Portuguese suprlus ammo for plinking. About 10% of it appears to have corrosion on it. The ammo is packed in heavy plastic battle packs, and cardboard boxes. The problem is that the plastic bags have tiny pin holes in them, and I guess water got in there somehow.

Anyway, the ammo with corrosion on it cleans up pretty good, and just leaves some discoloration behind. I took a Dremel to them with a buffing pad on it and just basically polished off the corrosion.

Having said that, I'm not sure if the cleaned up stuff is really safe to fire or not, because I'm basically still a n00b with all this. Here's some pictures. What you guys think?

Corroded, out of the box before cleanup:

The corroded ammo is rough to the touch. After I polished it up, it's smooth, but still discolored.

EDIT: BTW, these are some of the worse examples of the corroded ammo. A lot of the rounds only have a small spot or two.

(I think you know the answer and the difference)
You care to post pictures (via a Gradient Lens scope) of those Mosin bores?

If they're cared for along the same line as the muzzle brake on the 50 cal in the picture, they're not going to be pretty.

I've fired thousands of rounds of the Port in the same shape (after cleaning) and never had a failure of any type, in any gas-gun.

As a matter of fact, I ordered 3 cases of the battle pack 7.62 from SGA earlier today. For 36 cents/round, I can't reload it cheaper. After I heal up, I'm going to feed it to the SCAR-H's and make a day of it.

Ah nice. I thought it was a safe bet based on the user reviews. I bought 1000 rds (five 200 rd battle packs) from Sportsman's Guide for 36 cents per rd also. They're all sold out now though. Now I just have to arrange some range time to fire some of it!

Yep, my 50's brake is dirty but the K&P cut rifled barrel is oh so nice inside.......lol.

The Mosin's are doing fine. They throw that nasty corrosive Czech silver tip 7.62X54R into nice 2" groups @ 100 yards.

Oh BTW, the Port surplus I talked about earlier is not FMH, but FNM. My bad.
