I want to try in my shotty. See if it cycles properly.
I don't think it will cycle well. The shell willl get hung up, since it is no longer one rigid item.

I've seen this done before, and I really don't see much in the way of an advantage of this. They sell slugs for a reason. Also, as it has already been said, the shells could easily break, and jam up the shotgun. No thanks.
SCAR PICS AND VIDEO
The Latest and Greatest in TactiCool gear won't save you, but what's wrong with Surviving in Style?
Yeah, in the video they are careful to point out that this trick should be reserved for break-open shotguns. I think it's neat, but it's a "lost art" for the same reason blacksmithing nearly became a "lost art" modern manufacturing made it obsolete. So not terribly practical, but a cool bit of firearms history, I liked watching it.
It is extremely unsafe! It drives the pressures up extremely high. You are pushing an extremely oversized projectle down the bore. testing done by a major powder company for a shooting organization showed that cutting the shells like this as much as tripled the pressures in their test guns.
Ouch.

i have seen the results of this at my shop. the barrel will swell and the gun is ruined. it may or may not rupture the barrel but it will stress the metal and the only way to check for unseen damage is to have it mag tested or ndt for cracks. please don't do this.
don't do it. mine lodged in the barrel, PAIN IN THE ASS to get out. and im glad it didn't load the next round!
