So I'm looking at getting a Benelli M4 or a SLP. I've actually never heard of the SLPs until recently. I don't know much about them so I figured I'd ask here. What do you guys think of them. Has anyone here compared it to the Benelli M4. I've used the Benelli M4 in the Marines, I had to qual with it. I really like the Benelli M4 but I've been looking at the SLP and it seems good to. Hope to hear some good input thanks.

also I know this has been posted before, I was hoping to see if there was any new input![]()

M4 will cost you more. You need to get the extended mag tube for it and it does not have any forward rails for lights or whatever if you want that for home defense.
People have been very pleased with the SLP's and it's one of the fastest shotguns out there. It's cheaper than the Benelli and just as good. Doesn't look quite as good IMO, but there are more options that come with it.

once you buy the extended tube, isn't it no longer compliant under that import law they apply to the FAL? I can't think what it's called but where you have to put a certain number of American parts to make it legal.

I have the SLP MK1 and absolutely love it! I have a 28" barrel for it for sporting clays and hunting activities but while in the safe at the house, it is equipped with its 22" barrel, Fenix PD31 light on an Elzetta mount, and a Mesa Tactical 6-round side saddle.
The SLP is fast, less expensive than the Benelli, and in my very limited experience, the SLP appears to me to be a bit more versatile especially when coupled with a 28" swap-out barrel. You can go from tactical/home defense to 3-gun to sporting clays to bird hunting everything from dove to turkey. No regrets here.

Very nice, I've PMed you with some questions.

I too have shot the M4 and it is a spectacular shotgun. The main factor I would probably look at the FN SLP is the cost is much cheaper when l look to take it out of the box for 3 gun and use it for hunting or sporting clays. My buddy has over $3000 tied up in his M4 (Complete G.I. make over with the issued collapsable stock, side saddle, front sight, Trijicon RMR and more). He also had to scramble to keep it 922r compliant. The gun is a machine, and just incredible to go for speed when shooting steel.Originally Posted by ikantspeell
Even with just an extended Magazine tube, you will be spending in the area of 650+ dollars more than an SLP to make it a 3 gun shotgun (including the cost difference between the 2 sghotguns).
They are an awesome shotgun, and I guess if money was no object I would go that route, but for now I will save and settle for the SLP.
I have had an SLP since about '06 and I've had an M4 for about a year.
I paid $1500.00 for the Benelli, but it came with a $200 rebate, making the final price $1300. I spent about $189 on a Carrier Comp full length titanium mag tube. I replaced the factory stock with a Mesa Tactical Urbino stock for another $130, and their side saddle for $75. Lastly a Carrier Comp mag follower for $15, so now it is 922(R) compliant.
I bought the tri-rail for the SLP for around $100, and a Tac-Star side saddle for about $30 (this was before Mesa Tactical started making one). The M4 cost me over twice what I paid for the SLP from Tanner Sports. Is it twice the gun? No, I'd still say they're comparable. If I had to run out the door with one of them to protect my family or friends, it wouldn't matter to me which one I grabbed.
However, if someone gave me a 930SPX I would give it back![]()
