Getting my hands on an FNAR mag well.

    Hello,

I used to be active here a couple of years ago when the FNAR was a bit younger. I asked this question then but a lot has changed and I'm hoping for a new answer.

Can you buy individual parts from FN?
    Specifically the magazine well assembly.

I'm located in Sweden and here we've got plenty of Browning BARs but no FN FNARs. I study mechanical engineering and I'm looking for a project. Funds are still lacking but who knows.

If this doesn't work out then I might look into making one of my own. What material is it made of? Is it polymer or aluminum?

Q: Where can I get parts for my FNH USA firearm?
A: FNH USA parts are distributed by the FNH USA Service center. Contact them at 800-635-1321.

Called them, the answer is negative on the mag well. They won't sell "major parts" or entire assemblies.

Are you talking about the receiver or the lower end where mag release button is and comes off with the two roll pins and screws? The receiver has the guns serial number and that part is treated like a new gun not just a part. Why do you need such part anyways? I can't imagine that a goooooood gunsmith couldn't fix just about every part on the gun.

Might have better luck with your local area reps.

Just contemplating the possibility of having a crossbreed between a FNAR and a Browning BAR, using FNAR magazines.

It would be cool to have 20 round mags for a Browning Shorttrac

You could possibly get the mag to fit, but without extensive receiver mods I don't see anyway of locking the mag in place. Besides, if I were to try something like that, it would be with something like AR-10 mags because of cost. FNAR mags are way over priced. Something FNH should notice because most people I talk to won't even consider this rifle simply for the costs of the magazines. I've personally had to send two mags back because of feeding issues, something a $60 mag should never have to do.

The thing is that the FNAR mags seem to be elongated shorttrac mags. Look at the cut for the bolt stop, it's located at exactly the same spot for both mags and I bet the receivers have the same dimensions except for the extra hole on the FNAR receiver.

If I had a shorttrac I could drill the receiver myself and cut my own magwell out of some polymer material or maybe aluminum.
