My first post on this forum. I recently purchased a FNP 45 Tactical. It is a wonderful weapon!! I want to put a Trijicon RMR on it.
From comments on the forum, it seems that a 7-8 MOA dot is best for shorter range (10-30 M) shooting. So, that is the way I intend to go.
But, to battery or not battery, that is the question! I like the idea of no battery. But all tritium vials I know of, slowly loose brightness.
So, my question: anyone know if Trijicon can/will replace these vials after 5-10 years?
Also, is the Trijicon plastic light gathering system really rugged enough for the inevitable abrasion any frequently used pistol will suffer?
Thanks for your thoughts!!
replacing tritium vials could be answered on Trijicon's website to know for sure but I do know they re lamp their standard tritium sight tubes...I have the LED...I understand they now sell a version that you can turn the LED off when not in use...

Thanks Silversport. I have asked the question of Trijicon. It would be nice not to have to worry about batteries.
And in hindsight, at my age, the life of tritium capsules is probably not relevant!!
I did a lot of research on a number of forums before I selected the RMR with LED. It won't get washed out in bright light like the reflex (tritium/light gathering) one will. It adjusts to varying ambient light extremely quickly, and the batteries last over a year.
I heard nothing good about the adjustable LED version (the one with switches on the side). If I were going to do it for another gun I'd get the LED one again. I'm very happy with it.
Thanks so much!!
I just bought one myself, WAY NICE SHOOTER, is there anyother more inexpencive sights out there? $500-600... for an RMR seams a little much for the normal guy that likeS nice guns but doest need to go ALL TAC OUT![]()
I finally purchased a Trijicon RMR for my FMP Tactical. I installed it, and with a laser bore sighter, adjusted it's dot to be right above the front sight, when it was aligned with the rear sights.
Everything was fine until I knocked the gun against a hard object, from the side. I found that knock moved the red dot, significantly.
I re-zeroed, and tried again. Once again the red dot moved, even with a fairly light tap from the side.
Is this normal? I would hope not! If not, what should I do, return to the gun store or try to return to Trijicon? I don't think the former makes sense, because the gun store sold it as is.
After trying to get this sight for many months, I am NOT happy with this problem!
Help??
That's not normal for the dot to move. Call or email Trijicon and they will make it right. They have great customer service.
I bought the LED version.
I replace all my weapons sight batteries annually. That's even though the T-1 has a battery life of 5 years and the Comp M4 has an even longer one. Batteries are fairly cheap. I just change them all anually and call it good. Of course, changing the battery on the FNP requires rezeroing, but since it co-witnesses, that's pretty easy.
I just ordered an RMR 07 which has a 6.5 MOA. Mine will be the battery version as LED's are almost indestructible and replacing the battery even once a year is not a big deal to me. I do it with cell phones, cameras and other electronics so one more won't kill me and the batteries for the RMR are not expensive.
I first tried out the Leupold Deltapoint. There were a few things that bothered me about it. For one, the battery wasn't fully captured in any way and was exposed against the mounting plate. I would prefer a sealed battery compartment. Adjustments had to be done with a very small torx key that shipped with the unit. The set screws are at the back and are blocked by the rear sight once the sight is installed. I would be concerned about handling that small key and losing it. I'm not sure of the size but it could be difficult to replace. Finally the Deltapoint is not as rugged as the RMR.
Happily, I was able to return the Leupold and order the Trijicon.
