All this vacillation over optics with tritium, batteries, fiber optics, BDC, blah blah blah, and which is better than the other is getting to me so I need to vent...
Batteries are plentiful and companies such as Aimpoint manufacture excellent units, so if anybody's concerned over battery/optic failure, it's based on unfounded hyperbole. Not personal experience...
Clyde... Need I ask how you can come to the assumption that the ACOG perched atop "Son of SCARZILLA" does indeed suffice as I don't recall you having any range time with that weapon/optic combination.
If the glass takes a dump, you (generally speaking) best be proficient with irons if this is to be a crutch for that moment when society breaks down, zombie attacks are imminent, Mayan calendar ends, etc... If not, I'd suggest a sling-shot.
The SCAR platform is a battle grade carbine. Nothing more, nothing less. Some samples shoot sub-moa while others shoot 2moa. It's the luck-o-the-draw.
Personal experience:
ACOGS: Meh. 15 years ago... unimpressed. Shot just as well with irons. If it's dark enough to need tritium, it's dark enough to slither away.
EOtech: Meh. 5 years ago... all failed so I dumped them. Reverted back to irons.
Aimpoint: Good: 4 years ago to present day. M4... worked every time, but heavy for a RDS, sold them all and move to the H1 line. Good little RDS, with 1/3 co-witness of irons.
Insight MRDS: It's Winter and I have to wait until the Spring for the range to open.
To this day I still use simple crosshairs and they haven't failed me yet on variable powered glass. If you think it's going to make you a better rifleman, buy it and USE it, A LOT.
Rant out.

Sarge.. You forgot about EMPs... they will wipe out anything with a circuit... LONG LIVE TRITIUM AND FIBER OPTICS:<>:
In all seriousness, each of the optics you mentioned have a place, I have used all of them and they each have their pros and cons... as you said if it works for you and assists you engage your targets better, be that paper, deer, hogs, antelope, bad guys and dare I say zombies than go for it... what irks me is the premise that has become popular of trying to find the coolest optic and making it fit your shooting style vs figuring out what you want to use the weapon for then finding the optic that best suits YOUR particular needs.
Also, regardless of what anyone says, there is no such thing as a single optic that is perfect for everything
feels good don't it! +1 on the H-1! Great little RDS!

"I fought for Peace. Now I want a Piece of what I was fighting for!" Benny Hill
I collect coffee cups, baseball caps, motorcycles, knives, flashlights, tools, cars, boats, books, coins, and electronics. I do so because it makes me happy to own them, and I do not always use them just because I happen to own them -- a discerning collector does not always use what it being collected, because it retains value when it is unused or "brand new in box" as some people say. I have some that are still in the original box, package, or plastic, and some that are still brand new. I buys optics, and guns, because something about them appeals to me, so I decide to add them to my collection. I work hard for my money, I earn every single penny of it, and I spend it as I choose. My neighbors wonder why I own a Corvette but I only drive it on weekends; my motorcycle friends wonder why I have more motorcycles than I can ride; people wonder why I have more than one boat when one boat is all they think they need; and I have so many tools I could show you that you will grow tired of looking at them long before I run out of tools to show you. I understand that this makes some people green with envy, and that it bothers some people. I am used to that reaction, and I have had to deal with it most of my adult life. It used to actually bother me, but I have since discovered that it really is their problem, and not mine. I refuse to apologize for owning nice things, and for always striving to own even more. It is who I am, and what I do. I always wanted to be the guy in the store buying the nice thing, not the guy outside the store going window shopping. So I worked hard to get good grades, worked my way through college and law school, and got a high-paying job when I graduated. That bothers people I meet all the time. To them I can only say...no one has handed me a damn thing...I earned everything I own. And I am proud of it all, and I always will be. If you have some kind of a problem with that, then you just have some kind of a problem...what else can I say...maybe you need to up your game?

Clyde,
I don't envy you the least. What irks me, as well as a number of other members of FNF is your continued recommendations of items you've purchased based on absolutely zero experience with them other than bringing them home from your local gun shop.
I've always said, God Bless him, he has the money... BUT we all agree that you shouldn't be steering members toward something you have zero range time with.
K?
