Shot a Steel Challenge match today

For anyone curious what they're like, here's a video.

(warning... I suck at steel challenge)

At each stage you shoot 5 steel plates of regulation size and distance and height, and you shoot 5 strings of fire at each stage; your worst time is thrown out. (One stage you only shoot 4 strings). Your score is your total time.

Very fun, and a different type of shooting sport than the typical run'n'gun type (which are also fun).

I had a lot of trouble finding the red dot in my RMR optic for the first shots after presentation today. I really need to work on consistent grip and presentation. I lost a lot of time searching for the dot. I felt like giving up and shooting iron sights again.

Looks like fun! Don't be so hard on yourself you're out there doing it. With practice comes competency and then excellence. seems to me you are on your way to excellence.

That looks like fun. I plan on entering some of these competitions this year (2014 resolution).

~~Nevermind you, who is that young lady that enters the shot around the 1:07 mark??

Ok so you inspired me. I went to the local IDPA match last night and gave her a go. To say fun would be an understatement. It was a riot. Great bunch of folks. Was there with one other newby and two who had shot previoulsy but not at that location.

So I shot three innocents in 4 stages. AND. I wasn't fast. It was really good though and I was pretty pleased with my accuracy, besides the bystanders getting whacked. I hit two in the first stage and one in the last stage.

Now that I have the jitters out of the way and know what to expect, I'll have to practice a little bit. One thing I lost marks for was flat footing my shots when I was suppose to be moving. Oh well, live and learn.

Meh... they should have cleared out once the shooting started.

Glad you got out to a shoot! I wish I'd started 10 years ago. FUN, innit!

LOL....The resident "pro" said with a smile: " You haven't shot IDPA if you haven't taken a "Friendly""

I'm just glad I didn't DQ. Shooting with movement is so much more revealing than static range time. I think I'm hooked.
