7mmx28 subsonic wildcat - anyone doing it?

Has anyone taken the 5.7x28 case and blown it out straight walled? I am not sure what size it would be, but I would guess around 7mm. Then run a 175gr bullet subsonic through a suppressor. Might have to shorten the case a bit for the longer bullet.

Just checking to see if it's already out there so I don't waste my time starting from scratch.

I'm not following you. You want to take a 5.7x28mm case and straighten the neck and shoulder area to make the cse a straight walled brass case. After that you want to load a 7mm 175g bullet and fire it from what firearm? through a supressor to get a sub sonic load? Is this essentially correct?

I am not "wanting" to do anything. I asked if anyone had played around with something like that. Yes, a straight walled 5.7 case running a subsonic bullet, chambered in the PS90.

Seems to me like you "ARE WANTING" to do something. Why don't you check your "attitude" at the door - so to speak.

I do not know of anyone who has done that or why anyone would.

There are no subsonic loads available from FNH. They restrict their SB193 loads to LEO/Military. You can reload subsonics or buy them from Elite Ammunition. If you buy from Elite, expect top pay a premium price for the ammunition. If you reload, use the Seirra Game King 55g. The charge will depend on the powder. If you use a straight walled cartridge in the 5.7x28 platform, I expect that your stock firearm may go 'up in smoke'.

Anything over a 55g projectile in the 5.7x28mm platform will result in less than adequate performance and IMHO the 55g should be kept at subsonic speeds only.

I hope I answered your question.

You have intrigued me with the idea, although it is not something that I would do. I hope that IF you do this, that you keep us informed as to how you and your firearm fared.

    I gotta ask: Isn't there a subsonic 9mm? I though so...

175gr. 7mm. Humpf! Make a barrel... Draw print of reamers... Pay JGS or PMT to make reamers... Have dies ground... JEEEZ...

Take subsonic 9mm, load in gun with can, pull trigger. *pop* son-of-a-gun! I'm like lightening... I try to take the path of least resistance.

    7x28

I have to agree with the SGT, I load a heavy bullet 9mm, both long and short case, and it pops out at 1000+. The case on the 5.7 is not really all that strong in the ass end on its best loading days, cant imagine what the primers pocket would do at the 7mm loading. Might be OK, just seems like a lot of work for not much gain in performance. What platform, bolt gun? Contender?

I will stick to the 230gr through the Nexus, or the 180gr 9mm from the MP34. They both hit hard enough to flatten steel with a satisfying ring.

    It's already been done.

I asked Marty ter Weeme at Teppo Jutsu about it....if anyone would know, it would be him. He sent me this link to the 7mm Penna.
