My first DIY holster! I know I know, it's ugly as hell. The shell is fiberglass, I know, everyone loves Kydex and leather, but I'm more comfortable with Fiberglass so I tried it out. The glass holds the FNX-9 just a little too tight, and I'll need to continue sanding it to get a fast draw, but for now its ok. I used some rivets from a multi-pack bought at Joan's... yes going in may have cost me a Man Point, but no where else had them. the clips and leather(10-12 oz) are from a Tandy Leather store here in Tampa.
Its inspired by the Cross breed supertuck. :P I'm almost dissappointed ti turned out well because my Fiance sadi she'd get me a Crossbreed for Christmas if it didn't work out![]()
It fits just how I envisioned, holds the pistol rigth where I want it, doesn't rub me or pull my pants down. It also doesn't require me to sinch my belt down to its last hole just to keep the pistol in close. I'm a pretty skinny guy so this previously was a constant issue.
All that being said... fiberglass is a pain in the ass and it still doesn't draw as quickly as it needs to and I've been sanding it for a while. Would not recommend anyone trying this method unless you've already done some similar fiberglass work. It takes a long time and as you can see, it looks like a booger on a piece of leather. Fiberglass is messy and doesn't look as good as Kydex.
But it's been done so I wanted to share for the enjoyment of everyone here. Feel free to let me know if you have any questions about it / the process!

Trigger guard area too deep causing the difficult draw?
Also, how smooth is it inside?
and you're right, it is ugly![]()
but if it works, then who cares? (and it's IWB anyway...)

Nah the trigger guard isn't too bad, it's the front sight post, and the gap between the post and the wood I used as a channel guide. Also it is tight against the top of the slide. It jsut needs to be sanded more, but if left as is it will quickly rub off the finish on the slide. For some reason my finish rubs off easily already, I've got wear spots on the hammer, and parts of the slide from just 350rds! So I don't think I could get away with the rubbing as is for very long.
The inside was very ugly at first, after some sanding it still is ugly but overall smooth. However it is not a pretty negative of the pistol like leather would be.
I meant DIY as in do-it-yourself, I've never made any other holsters, OWB or IWB. I've only ever owned one OWB nylon universal Holster by KNJ, which hides the FNX decently, but I have to really tighten down my belt to keep it pressed in and concealed which is very uncomfortable. I like this ugly duck much better![]()
