FNP-45 Feed Problems With Winchester White Box Ammo

My FNP-45 does very well with PMC, MagTech, CCI Blazer, Winchester Ranger T hollow points but it does not seem to like Winchester White Box ammo. I get feed problems with this ammo. Seems like they get stuck in the magazine. The rounds also seem to leave more residue in the feed ramp than the other brands. I noticed that the Winchester White Box rounds tend to be a bit longer (just by a little but enough to be noticeable) than the other brands of .45 ball.

Anyone else experience issues with this ammo?

That's very common for WWB in 45 ACP and the 45 mags.

Rumor is that FN is now making the mas a bit longer to accommodate slightly longer rounds.

What is the date on the test fired cartridge that came with the gun?

What is the 'mas'?

Hi,

Can you tell me what the 'mas' is? I'm not familiar with the term.

Thanks for your help on this. It will be great if FN comes out with new mags that can accommodate, but to tell the truth, it seems very hard to find any magazines for the FNP-45 at all.

forgot the 'g' to make mags :-D

The age of your gun means it would've come with the older mags.

Mags are out there. CDNN had a bunch a while ago and A&A arsenal (sponsor here) had 30 some 45 mags last week. PM some of the sponsor (True hunter supply, Oklahoma Police Supply, and A&A and see if they have any and what the prices are).

Based on my experience with my FNP 40 count yourself lucky that most ammo does work and run with it.
What problems did you have with your FNP40?? I'm curious as I have a 40 with just over 300 rounds through it.

To start I sent it back to FNH customer service because an empty mag wouldn't drop out of it. The release was fine but the flutes inside the grip were too tight. FNH kept it longer than they said they would and then, when I called, they sent it back not fixed. The gunsmith that I bought it from shaved it out a bit.....easy fix. Then I started trying to shoot in the Steel Matches and it would mis-feed, very frustrating. Before I went back to the range to sort out if it might be a mag (like Scam 13 experienced) or just bad ammo I got distracted and put it away. I have had too many guns nowadays from assorted manufacturers that have some flaw right out of the box. Anyway, my gunsmith friend retired, took his guns, dog, and wife back into the Idaho woods and pulled them in around him.

FNP40 feed problems

No, I was just filling in some info in case someone wondered why I didn't/couldn't take it back to the retailer I got it from. I have yet to contact FNH's customer service dept but I think my focus should be to check for mag problems, an intolerance for the cheap ammo I have been trying to use and to compare notes with other FNP 40 owners both on forums like this one and with the gun clubs in my area. Does anyone have any further suggestions? TIA Mike

Hmmm, I've used WWB in my FNP40. If I remember, it was a 100-rounder of 165gr. FMJ. Ran with no FTE/FTF's. I did have an FTS from one magazine. Can't remember the kind of ammo that was in said mag.

Did a tap, rack, bang and dropped the magazine to replace the ejected round. Next shot was fine.

Did you have the 180gr or the 165gr FMJ in WWB when you had the problem?

I had the same problem with WWB in my FNP-45 USG, also dated 9/25/09. I called FN customer support and they said early on in production some of the mags were out of tolerance. When they found out about the issue they culled all of the out of tolerance mags out of stock and fixed the issue with all production going forward.

FN emailed me a UPS pre-paid return label and said to ship back my mags and they will send me new mags. He said the turn around time was about 30 days.

The customer service rep said that any mags in inventory now with any resellers should be the new mags. He specifically mentioned CDNN as having placed 3 or more orders since the issue was fixed, so there should be no question that CDNN mags are the new mags. I ordered three 15 round mags from CDNN last week at $36.99 each.

I used a dremel tool to take the angle off of the feed ramp, and that seems to have corrected the problem. I cycled 3 magazines of wwb through the gun manually and they are going through smoothly. I will have a report once I take it to the range this weekend.

I hope you did not reduce the chamber support where the feed ramp transitions into the chamber. If you did reduce the chamber support, you could very well see ruptured cartridge cases which could damage or destroy your gun. The pressures that target ammo operate at will likely not cause a case rupture. Where you may see a rupture is with +P ammo or ammo that is loaded to near maximum pressure.

I would not recommend altering the angle of the feed ramp. Polishing the feed ramp is OK, but altering the angle will likely cause issues.

Good Day,
I just took my new from CDNN FNP .45 USG to the range and ran about 60 rounds of WWB through it. No problems at all except the slide locked back on the first shot. It was a bit tough to drag the slide over the top of a freshly inserted magazine. I know, not tactically sound, but it was a range test. I used the two 14 round magazines first and 2 15 round magazines second. (Pistol pack, plus I ordered one extra mag.) I am very pleased; though, I need to work with the piece. The test case dates to 08/25/09 I'll have more to post as it breaks in.
Best,
Rob :D
