Magpul XTMs.

Tried the tangodowns and didn't like them because they had too much play.

Got a pair of the Tango Down Scar Rail Covers for the side rails on the 17s.....found them to be too loose....there are plenty of other good options....but if you like them,,,,thats all that matters..I think one of the employees at Tango Down explained the sloppy fit on the SCAR side rail manufacture.

I've been using the TD rail covers, and am happy enough with them. 6" on the bottom rail, and a 4" on both sides. When I use a light, I just pull off the left side rail (I run the light with my thumb). I've been considering getting a 2" cover so the remainder of the rail is covered when I run the light. YMMV...

What is your purpose for the rail covers?

Is it purely aesthetic, or for heat/sharpness of rails?

My brother bought a bunch of the Larue clips and gave me a bunch, too. I used them and think they work fine to take off the rough edge of exposed rails. I don't think they do much for heat, but I've never really had any issues with heat (as long as I keep my hand away from the barrel). The clips are light weight and customizable.

If ya look close in the snaps posted earlier in this topic you'll see the ladders on both the left rail (beneath the short TD rail cover) and on the bottom rail. Smooths the rough edges and if the covers fall off or need to be removed the ladders are smoother than the factor rails. Rail covers were purchased for feel and grip.

I have the TDs. Some are a little loose, but nothing a layer of tape on the underside of the covers doesn't fix.

The shortest length come two to a pkg. The others are one per.

I got an extra in the longest length. For bench shooting testing new loads, I take my AFG off and slide the long panel on. That lets it sit in the sandbag and slide smoother under recoil better than the AFG or bare rails.

I like keeping all unused rail space covered on rifles to prevent damage. It doesn't take much of a ding to make things hard go get on or off. I think I have it configured like I want, but things change.

I've had good luck with the TD SCAR rail covers, with light use on my SCAR (due to time and travel) but have more time with them on a Colt 6920 where they have held up well to heat and being banged around. For the top (12 o'clock) rail on both platforms, I prefer the ladder style rail cover as it protects the rail and your hand and helps dissipate heat more easily. YMMV
