As I am waiting on my tax stamp, I have researched many different options for shortening the barrel on the PS 90. As I hear CMMG has a very good barrel, I am concerned that it is not as good as the factory. Can some of you please post your experiences and thoughts based on cutting the factory barrel or using an aftermarket barrel to obtain a short barrel rifle. Thank you.
As long as you send your barrel off to someone who is competent cutting it it will be just as good if left alone. TROS is THE place to send your ps90 barrel for cut/recrown. CMMG would be on par with the FN factory barrel as well.
I had TROS do mine, very happy with it, cmmg stopped all ps90 parts production when I did mine. The nice thing with cmmg you can call them and tell them the barrel will be used with a supressor and they will verify concentricity before shipping to you.
you should also look into the new PS90 barrel offering from Stryker Enterprises. Just do a google search. If your not going to have your factory barrel cut, Stryker has awesome new short barrels for the PS90. They are not inexpensive at $369.99 but Mom always said, "you get what you pay for." Either way, good luck and enjoy. the PS90 was made to be an SBR!!!
I am really getting excited about going SBR. Thanks for all of your suggestions and input. It is an interesting poll, as it seems to be dead even on the contributed opinions. I like the idea of looking for a P90 barrel that Troublesx10 suggested. That would be ideal for keeping everything as factory as possible. I was not aware that Tros did actual cut-downs on the barrels. Does anyone know the average cost for a cut-down versus the cost for a new barrel?
It depends on how long you like to wait. Tros does a great job. They did my first barrel in a month. The one they have currently been there since November. So if your patience is good tros as good as it gets. If not just buy aftermarket
I bought a new PS90 take off barrel here on the forum for $100. I sent it to Tros to cut it down. I cut off my barrel and installed the barrel I had cut down. I then sent my cut off barrel to be cut down and I now have a spare!
Since November? 3+ months for a cut down? I'm sorry, but that is way too excessive. That is almost as much time as it is taking to get Form 1's approved by the ATF.
I used a CMMG barrel and I am impressed so far. Is shot the sheet out of it yesterday and everything is as if should be. I wouldn't hesitate to go with CMMG a second time. I chopped the end of my OEM barrel off and I am trying to decide what to do with it now.
