MEXICO CITY, Mexico (CNN) -- Reviving a ban on assault weapons and more strictly enforcing existing gun laws could help tamp down drug violence that has run rampant on the U.S.-Mexican border, President Obama said Thursday.
"We can respect and honor the Second Amendment while dealing with assault weapons," Obama says in Mexico.

No suprise here. Anyone with half a brain KNEW this was part of his agenda. Any gun owner who voted for him is a traitor to the 2nd amendment.
This is only the beginning!![]()

It is coming, but as the article says, he is under too much heat to make any big changes at this time in congress. So I would say that we are safe...through the end of the year at least. I really don't see anything changing in the next couple of months.
It sucks but I am sure he will re-institute it. This is what I have to say to him:![]()
Seems to me that we have no business making US laws to "help" Mexico, furthermore we have no business tampering with our rights as citizens of this country past our own borders.
This isn't a new problem Mexico is having and I'm sorry to say but a Select Fire Ak47 is not made in America and changing laws for semi-automatic weapons is not going to change the fact.
I think we should listen to Mexico you know how smart they are. Can't control their own people, took years to slow down their pollution. Guns are illegal there but everyone has them. We should really do what they say they are far superior to us. Have you seen the decks they can build and how well they mow lawns, hell I wish I could mow a lawn like that.![]()
"Guns don't kill people, husbands that come home early do!"
2nd amendment isnt supposed to be bypassed even by the president or congress or any other person
this is him if he succeeds:(he is sayin we r weak attack us while it lasts)

It's not that i dont care what people say about me its just i dont pay attention lol
Big news: I voted for Obama and, given the mess he inherited, I think he's doing a pretty good job. And I am not alone. You might be surprised to learn that, even though McCain carried Texas, he lost Austin, Beaumont, Dallas, Houston and San Antonio to Obama. And most of us in those cities are pro-gun.
That being said, I don't support the efforts the President and the Speaker of the House are making to bring back any more controls. The "Straw Man" purchases that are supplying the arsenals to the Mexican drug lords are already illegal with a pretty hefty penalty. The governments of Mexico and the United States could cooperate by tracing the serial numbers of seized weapons back to the original purchasers and making some high-profile busts in they find evidence of illegal transfers. That would do a lot more than simply putting another piece of legislation in place that won't do anything to slow the flow of weapons to Mexico.
One thing the governments of both countries fail to mention is the Mexican army and police are also prime sources of weapons for the gangs. Corruption is still rife in Mexico and the cartels are rich, something the United States can't do anything about.
Believe it or not, the best news for all of us who appreciate our rights to keep and bear arms is the new Democrats in Congress. A large number of them are pro-gun, so there are now enough pro-gun members of Congress to block new controls. Speaker Pelosi admitted as much in an interview when she said she wanted to bring back the assault weapons ban but wanted to remain Speaker of the House even more. It's a popular misconception that being a Democrat means one is automatically anti-gun or being a Republican means one is automatically pro-gun.
The best thing we all can do is look beyond party affiliations and support candidates who respect the Second Amendment.

Well said. However to put the matter to rest Obama should state that he will veto any AWB sent to him. Until then, his record speaks louder than his words.Originally Posted by TexasBill
A pure democracy operates by direct majority vote of the people. When an issue is to be decided, the entire population votes on it; the majority wins and rules. A republic differs in that the general population elects representatives who then pass laws to govern the nation.
I agree that would be one of the smartest things the President could do. Not only would it bring him more real support than it would lose him (record gun and ammunition sales indicate their is a lot of support for gun ownership and a lot of determination not to give up oour gun rights) but it would be a real leap for him to make such a move.
Consider he's from Chicago, home to some of gun control's most noteworthy failures (like Morton Grove, which banned handgun ownership and now has a higher crime rate than Kennesaw, Georgia, which requires gun ownership). Ivy-league school in a state that also regulates gun ownership. He had no military service. Chances are he's never fired a gun, maybe even never held a gun. Ergo, zero familiarity with them. A good NRA safety course followed by a day with some folks who enjoy target shooting might do him a world of good, especially if we can get him away from Rahm Emanuel.
I am not saying this would make him a firearms fan, but it might let him get to know real people who are and understand they are just normal people who want to enjoy their sport and protect their homes and families. No different than the original settlers who formed what would ultimately become the United States. That's why the framers of the Constitution worded the Second Amendment so carefully when they said "the right of the PEOPLE to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed." Militia is mentioned, but if that was the reason for the Amendment, the men who wrote the Bill of Rights were smart enough to have said something like the right of the people, in a militia... or something similar. But they said "people" and that is what they meant.

TexasBill ... have you been following the saga in Chicago over the past few days? Is it coincidence that this is taking place in the state of Illinois? It is the right of all Americans to vote for who they choose. It is my right as an American to think them naive regarding their choice.
Best of luck getting BHO registered for the NRA Safety Course. Get Emanuel, Holder and Pelosi in there while you're at it!
