*NEW* Hornady Superformance Match 5.56 NATO 75 gr. BTHP

Knocking around at a gun shop at lunch today, sliding down the 5.56/.223 aisle, and I see a new (to me at least) bright shiny box that caught my eye:

So, the curious crow pauses to contemplate the bright shiny object, and looks at the label -- well, looky here, 5.56 NATO 75 grain BTHP Superformance rounds -- so I snagged it!

And I bring it home, because the crow, well, he just loves his bright and shiny objects...he can't help it.

Looks like a pretty interesting BTHP round, and 75 grains for added penetration -- wonder how the SCAR and SIGs will like this little pocket rocket?

Is that supposed to be a nasty terminal round, or mostly for accuracy like some of the Sierra's?

If you test with your 16S update us on findings. Hornady released a paper on the Superperformance line and how it may or may not cycle in gas operated firearms, especially those with barrel lengths shorter than 20".

I saw a few boxes of these at my LGS last week as well. I'm curious as to how they'll do.

I haven't shot it yet, but I will and I'll post results - on vacation next week!

Hornady had some issues with this ammo initially (their hunting emphasis can create issues with the tactical guys) but they switched bullets and issued the tech guidance. It will run in a SIG 5.56, though, see link below. Most SIG 556s are 2 MOA guns, so the accuracy results reflect this:

I'll see soon enough re: the SCAR 16S....

I remember that thread on the SIG 556 forum. I had just ordered my SIG 556 SWAT and it wasn't in at the time.
I have some Hornady in my stash, can't remember if it is VMAX or SuperFormance. I need to go run some down the SCAR 16 and the ol' Mini-14. I do remember they were two extremes, like 35 grain and 75 grain stuff.
I know I have shot the SuperFormance in my BAR Safari .30-06... makes the thing kick like a .300 Win Mag, well, that is what my brother said after we shot it a bunch. In the BAR it shot great, but then, my BAR is remarkable in that it will shoot the same at 135 yards using 165 grain Superformance and Federal 150 grain and Federal 180 grain. At 135 yards, it isn't far enough to see any difference.

Picked up a few boxes about 3-4 weeks ago. It's like $1.20 a shot
It's weird that pirates would go from shore to shore looking for buried treasures; when the real treasure was in the friendships they were making along the way.

I paid $15.79 a box...but the place I bought mine has since sold out of this ammo.
