SBR Form 1 sent

So I sent the paperwork off today, 9/9/2010 at 10:33 am, from the post office, express mail.

They will get the package on Saturday, or Monday if not open to sign on Saturday. Wish I could have sent yesterday, or sooner.

One note, the form says to make the check out to the BATFE, not the Department of the Treasury, as mentioned in the SBR paperwork sticky here.

That changed a few years ago.

You can make it out to BATFE, ATF, ATF-NFA. I would bet you could still make it out the the Department of the Treasury. If they get it they will cash it.

I have had people make their estimated tax payments out to the IRS, Pennsylvania Department of Revenue, and Pennsylvania Electric Company..... and gotten all three in the wrong envelopes..... and all three cashed a check not made out in their name.

The IRS doesn't want to hear about how your $8,000 estimated tax payment was cashed by the electric company when you are asking for penalty forgiveness for late tax payments.....

A simple bit of fine print legal speak on the check would help. "By cashing this check you accept my IRS income tax liability for the next 5 years, if cashed you may later opt out by refunding the full amount with an additional 3% within 10 days."

It seems to work for those credit companies sending out $10 checks locking you into something ridiculous.

If only it would really work that well for us.

I just wanted to mention about the check in case someone had a question about it. In the instructions with the Form 1 it says to make it out to the BATFE, long version.

Chair!!! I'm gonna relax on a memory foam bed!!!

UPS is supposed to deliver my 1 in 9 twist barrel, and P90 FNH style flash hider tomorrow.

Have to store that in a safe place, while waiting.

Also I have to start getting parts, except for the barrel, for the stripped AR15 lower that I am also SBRing.

The new ATF form 1's are to be made out to the Deaprtment of the Justice per the instructions on the Form 1 and Form 4's are to be made out to BATFE.

As we've said, they'll cash it no matter who you made it out to.

You say the "new" ATF form 1's, I just ordered forms from the ATF three weeks ago. I received forms that are the version below.

Instructions, 2, g. Remittance. If the application is subject to the making tax, a check or money order, made payable to the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives, in the amount of $200.00 must be submitted with the ATF Form 1. Do not send cash.

Look at the front page upper right in the area where you check the box for the type of tax. I bet it says something different there.
