You use the serial number of the firearm that you are converting. Since your are the one making it into an SBR, you are the manufacturer of the SBR, you must engrave your name, city/town, and State.

Thanks guys for your prompt replies and clarification.
So since I am the "maker," the "marking and identification requirements" "are the same as for a manufacturer."
Thanks for the step by step. Door to door was exactly 90 days from BATF![]()

I had a local gun shop tell me that as soon as I send in the paperwork for an SBR it is a class III and illegal for me to have in my possession. They said they can help with the paperwork and even offer to engrave it with their info vs. mine but they need the gun from the day I submit the paperwork until the stamp is back.
I thought it was only illegal if you had the gun and a short barrel in the same location (constructive intent)?
I would like to fill out the paperwork, get it engraved and still enjoy the gun for the next 6-9 months while waiting for the stamp. I would also like to avoid a felony during the process![]()
