    Optics suggestion

I was out shopping for optics. I was seeking the Eotech 553 in FDE. I was looking around the gunshop and salesman just got back from his third tour and said he loved the Leupold CQ/T Mark 4. I have to say I was impressed. I never used one during my time in but I did like the dial in to increase magnification. Site picture is good but the inherent problem I noticed was your eye has to be the proper distance to view the reticle properly. Any thoughts on this scope or other optics?

    Thanks

    Lee

I have both of which you just mentioned as well as the Aimpoint Comp4, and personally of the three, I like the Comp4 the best followed by the 553.A65 FDE, and lastly, the CQT.

The battery type and life on the Comp4 puts it at an advantage over the other two. The FDE is nice as well, but the battery is that off the wall CR123, and the CQT is just big and clunky along with what you mentioned in regards to the eye relief.

    CQT

I run a CQT on mine....LOVE IT! gives you the best of both worlds (1x-3x) and will operate without a battery. I have eotech and aimpoints on my other long-guns but CQT seems at home on the SCAR.

My opinion... An Aimpoint is the way to go. KISS

I'd say the intended use matters. Most of the 3 gun guys I know like a good 1-4 and they say they are better out far (of course) and are almost as fast up close.

I've been using my Aimpoints for 3 gun and I won't be changing to anything else. If I find myself in some that are out much further than 300 yards I might get the 3X. With the proper zero I believe the red dot is superior out to at least 300 yards (opinion of course).

In my opinion there is nothing as fast at regular fighting distance as a a good red dot.

Plus the battery life, proven reliability, field of view, unlimited eye relief, etc.... makes an Aimpoint tough to beat.

Good luck and show us your set up and range report when you decide.

I'll be adding a Insight MRDS in FDE.

I dont want a big heavy optic on my SCAR. It balances so well and I dont want to ruin it.

    Then get an Aimpoint Micro.

In fact, unless you have a specific need for another RDS, I'd say default ought to be the Aimpoint Micro. It's lightweight, it's proven... it's Aimpoint.

Dont like the T1. Had one on my LWRC and sold it within 4 months and got another ML3. I wasnt a fan of the tiny objective window. It's the only aimpoint I have ever been unsatisfied with

I tried the MRDS and preferred the HUD design, and was impressed at how well it auto adjusted. The Eotech style hood should provide plenty of durability.

For anyone curious, this is what I am talking about
