I heard on Army Times that a 6.8mm SPC conversion kit was made for the SCAR during the Army's next carbine effort. I'm just wondering if a 6.8mm conversion kit would be available for sale in the future. Also, would the 6.8mm conversion kit be used on the SCAR-L or the SCAR-H? (I heard that SCAR-H possesses calbier modularity and SCAR-L is optimized for 5.56mm)
Would the 6.8mm SCAR have a SPEC II chamber (the latest chamber design for 6.8mm)?

Anything is possible. As to whether or not FNH moves forward on any of it, has yet to be determined.
I guess we'll have to wait and see.![]()

The only thing I know is that FN has/had one 6.8 SPC prototype SCAR, however it was a Gen II. Current production is at least a Gen IV.
I feel that if the military requests it, they'll make it, and POSSIBLY make it available to the public. My guess is that someone will eventually make a conversion depending on how well public sales go and if the 6.8 picks up some steam (could be 10+ years though, so I wouldn't get my hopes up for something soon).
It would definitely be in the SCAR L version as the 6.8 SPC is made to the parameters of the 5.56X45 OAL and uses almost the same mags (same with the 6.5 Grendel).

Sorry, I don't understand what Gen II and Gen IV means. Is Gen II a chamber for the underpowered 6.8mm ammo made by Remington or is it the current SPEC II chamber?
Would it be easier for the SCAR to be converted to 6.8mm than other rifles, since it was designed for barrrel and caliber modularity.
Where did you find the information about the prototype 6.8 SCAR. Could you post the link? Thanks.
He's referring to the various prototypes: 1st prototype = Gen 1, and so on.

That.
Templar had a pic of the prototype in one of his threads (I think from when he took the armorer's course). He had pics of the various prototypes.

Yeah the 6.8 is a better caliber but the military is cutting down on expenses and the conversion kits would cost millions. it would make more sense is they go with the 308 version which is the MK17Originally Posted by M995
