    SCAR Panels

    FYI-in case you order panels......

There are two sizes for the full length panels:
M4 size 6 inch (not my photo)

And the actual SOCOM spec'd 6.5 inch

The SOCOM size actually covers more of the rail versus the standard size one for the AR carbine rail system.

That 6" bottom rail cover in the top photo is the one sold by Tango Down as a SCAR panel SC-006. The side panels are also TD for the SCAR, 4.125", SC-004.

Looking at the TD page, the ones TD sells are 2", 4.125" and 6" and they are all labeled as for the SCAR. The 6.5" panel must be by someone else.

The SOCOM 6.5" SCAR panel will not be listed in the "commercial" side or their webpage.

It's made by TD for SOCOM and is shipped that way. Ask me how I know. (I included a photo - just for you dwillFN )

You HAVE to request 6.5" SOCOM Spec'd panel. Call TangoDown (not the CA based number) if you have ANY doubts.

PM me and I can give you Jeff Cahill's cell number. On second thought, I don't think Jeff would like that. I'll give you the AZ number where he's at instead.

    ETA: Since we're talking item numbers......it's SC-006.5 - 6.5" SCAR PANEL , FDE

You don't have to order the 6.5" panel. Just order the plain jain one that everyone else does.

Hmm, I wonder why TD doesn't sell the proper 6.5" panel to mere mortals. I don't see anything SOCOM "special" about having a rail cover that's 1/2" longer, other that they can have it and the rest of us can't.

Thanks for the photo and info. I already have the 6" panel and I'm OK with it. That's my SCAR in the top photo.

Because TD spent a lot of money on the 6" injection mold die, and they want to get their money's worth out of it.

The 6.5" panels are actually full length production "uncut." The standard 6" ones are cut down on the non-tabbed side and sanded. If you look closely at the 6" ones you will notice that the borders on the "exposed face" are uniform except at the cut and sanded end. If you look closely at the 6.5" ones you will notice that the borders are uniform all around.

The difference is minimal from a practical use perspective. It's only a half inch. The SCAR panels were designed specifically for the SCAR and the molds were set up as such with the full panel size being 6.5" in length. However, with the commercial SCAR market being so limited, Tangodown made the decision to cut down 99% of those produced into the M4-standard 6" length. The 6" length works for both the limited SCAR market AND the broader M4 market. The remaining 1% of production that are uncut (6.5") are set aside to fill military orders to equip SCARs specifically.

TD will continue to substitute the "uncut" panels to commercial SCAR owners on factory-direct orders upon request. If you think about it how many commercial SCAR owners are there? How many of those will choose Tangodown rail panels? How many of those will choose to not run a VFG and use a full length rail panel on the bottom rail? As you can see, the market for the 6.5" panel is extremely small. IMO, Tangodown made the right marketing decision. However, they are cool enough guys to accommodate commercial SCAR owners when a special request is made.

Here are a few pics. I have an extra 6" and an extra 6.5" if anyone is interested (CONUS only). No funds necessary. (Update 2/15 - both have a new home - )

Not very often do you find someone on the internet generous enough and willing to do something for others at no personal gain for themselves - FNBlack is just that type of person. I received both panels from him today and couldn't be happier. Two free rail panels and did I mention free express shipping.. Is it possible to get a better deal than that?

    Thanks Todd
