Do you want a Scar kit ?

    Hello ,
I am new here and I have been reading about the lack of aftermarket parts for the Scar . People want a "kit" . Tell me what you want in the kit , be as specific as possible . I work in a machine shop and we are currently looking into the insurance side of weapons manufacturing . I believe that we do not need the same insurance for acc. as we do the make entire gun .( I could be wrong )I am willing to help out and possibly start making the parts needed . I can make them in large quantity if needed or smaller lots . I just need feedback on what exactly is needed and will be purchased . For those of you that are familiar with the manufacturing side of things we are a vry well equiped shop with state of the art technology . We have Mazak SQT's with live tooling ,3,4,and 5 axis Fadal and Makino mills and 3 Citizen swiss style machines . I use Solidworks on the design side and Camworks on the mfg. side . We also have a Mag machine and 2 CMM's .

Just so we are perfectly clear on this my boss is on board with me however I am kinda going out on a limb because we are an Aerospace company and I am the reason we are venturing into the gun market .

    Thanks
    Arlie.

    Arlie,

If you're just putting feelers out for a market, that's fine but, if you're soliciting business on FNF, you'll need to become a sponsor. Contact Thermallator to discuss the details on sponsorship.

    Liability Insurance:
If the part(s) have anything to do with firing the weapon or safe operation (risk to the operator), the insurance is the same as manufacturing the entire weapon.

If you'll be manufacturing a charging handle or a sling swivel, there can still be exposure to liability. It's the nature of the legal system today. Just something to keep in mind.

I am too new to my SCAR to have a valid list of modifications, but I have ripped my knuckle while operating the Charger handle with my Eotech sight mounted. I have seen requests for some sort of offset charger handle to replace the stock one so this interference with mounted sights would be lessened. I have to admit that I am getting used to my Eotech being mounted forward of the charging handle.

Thanks for the input , right now it's just feelers . I have not cut a chip yet !
But if there is enough demand I will be selling parts and I will contact FNF before I actually sell . I will probably hand out a few parts for free to those who will use them and give feedback . This will help me to get my name out and will help out the guy cause he is getting the freebies !!!

I would be interested in different types of charging handles. I'd try a few different CHs.

The one I really want is like the Nordic for the SLP. I'd buy one for my SCAR and for my FNAR.

I'd also try one that would be on both sides at the same time if that's possible. I believe there could be a market for a CH that dropped down a little, but I'm not sure - I like mine where it is.

I like the rail as is, but I have seen others discuss a longer rail that goes past the piston.

I would be interseted in a downward angled charging handle, perhaps around 30 degrees...

Where are you located in Ohio? I am a bit of a hobbyist and always looking for folks with CNC machines willing to make gun parts.
