I think what you're referring to as a "Gen1" were prototype (pre-production) units.
The "Gen2", as you call them, is a production FN Herstal magazine - high luster finish (Beligian Mfr)
The "Gen3" is from Wisconsin based D&H Industries which were handed the contract to manufacture magazines by FNH USA and are readily identified by the manganese phosphate surface finish, aside from the cage code. We also know that D&H has been going through growing pains since, and these magazines will vary slightly from the Belgian counterparts. Personally, I'll take the Belgian units over the D&H if given a choice.
Not saying the D&H are junk. I just have a personal preference.

The black mag is definitely FN made...the FDE appears to be FN but I can't see the mag slot limiter (nose) clearly.
FN and D&H mags side by side:
They came in identical blue and white FN boxes................................dj
"As democracy is perfected, the office of President represents, more and more closely, the inner soul of the people. On some great and glorious day the plain folks of the land will reach their heart's desire at last, and the White House will be occupied by a downright moron."

The magazines arrived today. Here they are.
I'm glad I saw this thread. I was thinking of purchasing one of his 5 packs off of GunBroker. Now I think I'll wait!
