Yeah, I know... sorry, plz humor me...
I have a TA01 ECOS on my SCAR-L and a TA31 RCO on my Colt 6920
But I am constantly going back and forth with my choice of optics for my 5.56 stable.
My SCAR serves as my patrol rifle, our location can find us inside a 30 story building one moment and standing in the middle of some farmers 2,000 acres the next. So I elected for the 4 X ACOG, TA01 ECOS with DR Optics red dot. As this gives me the best of both worlds...
But its hard to dismiss the abilities of the AimPoint M4.
I've shot AimPoints out to 300 yards at steel human silhouettes, with little difficulty.
The 5.56 isn't a serious long range round IMHO, so I consider it a 300 yard and in gun...
So, with the idea that both of my 5.56 guns are 300 yard and in guns and I need an optic that can go from zero to 300 yards, what would you see as the pros and cons of either optic choice?
ACOG or AimPoint?
Right now I'm leaning with returning to an AimPoint for my SCAR and leaving the TA31 RCO on my M4...
What say y'all?
aimpoint t-1 is a beast of an optic youtube daniel defense m4 tourture test. they have an aimpoint mounted to the top of it.. holy crap is all im going to say. Just pick up the magnifier with the QD mount. I would go aimpoint hands down

Great video! Thanks for the heads up hairymole!
Contrary to popular belief, I know exactly what I'm doing.
I like Aimpoints. I feel that it would be more likely that you would be close in where the aimpoint will have a significant advantage over the Acog. I would be surprised if you ever needed to engage someone over 100 yards.

That test was impressive. Shocked the Aimpoint still ran after all that.

Did somebody mention Aimpoint?
Let's see 'em do that with the Eotech.

While I believe there are better versions of the ACOG than you one you are currently using, I would say stay with the ACOG, especially since you have the DR sight for it. The Aimpoint might be better than the ACOG at close range, but the DR sight closes the gap significantly. Past 150m or so, the ACOG really helps, not just for aiming or hitting the target, but also for target ID, or simply "checking out the area. Another major advantage of the ACOG is that it doesn't use batteries. Yeah, we all know that Aimpoints have great battery lives, but it's still a possibility.
Lastly, I used to agree with you that 300m was the limit of 5.56, but with the proper round, optic, and shooter, it's effective to at least 500m. I'd rather use 7.62Nato, but 5.56 will get the job done.
