Is anyone using a 17 on patrol, and front passenger compartment mounting it in the patrol car? if so, what lock are you using?
We currently have a mix of Big Sky and Santa Cruz gun locks in our Tahoes for our Colt M4s. The fore-end of the SCAR is a larger circumference than an M4 with a quad rail, so the 17 won't fit our current racks. Santa Cruz doesn't make a lock large enough to accomodate. Big Sky has not gotten back to me yet. Any other suggestions for mounting? (Putting it in the rear Trunk Vault is not an option. A gun locked in back is useless).
Mount it on your spot light, and make a remote trigger control. You won't even have to get out of the car. I think You'll have to wait until they manufacture a mount. SCAR not so common yet in LE use.
The militarization of law enforcement is kind of a slippery slope... Some could and have also argued that the same weapon being discussed doesn't have a place in the hands of civilians... I wouldn't jump off that cliff, but law enforcement officers do need to have the ability to exceed or at least equal the force they are being met with. Depending on where an officer works there might be more or less of a need, but when you are facing down a real "bad guy" who has an assault weapon or a rifle sometimes a pistol isn't the best option. I work in law enforcement and I respect the rights of all law-abiding citizens to carry whatever they want. At times members of the law enforcement community go too far or make mistakes, but then after all we are just people. There are good cops and bad cops the same way there are good doctors and bad doctors, etc. As long as there is no abuse I see nothing wrong with having the right tool around for the appropriate time when it might be needed.
Kay9Cop,
If I can move the mount further up on the support bracket that may work. I'll give it a try.
JonM,
I am not using the side rails, and it would probably work without them and I thought about that, but would need to find shorter flush-fitting screws for the barrel, or a spacer under the stock ones.
I was thinking the vltor handguard might be a solution. I will measure it this afternoon. I did that once but i dont remember what post i put that info in. I know the handguard doesnt weigh much but its pricy.
The only screw needed is the one for the lower barrel spacer on each side the others just hold the rail on.
OP do you have any recommendation for a security drawer since your an LE and probably seen some. Looking for an jeepXJ and can't find too many choices. I'm not LE but would like to keep a truck gun for the heck of it.
What year XJ do you have? If it's up to '96, Tuffy used to make a full replacement console. They are discontinued now, but might find 1 available somewhere. I strongly recommend checking out North American XJ Association Its a national forum for strictly XJ Cherokees.
Rypht,
I like the Blac-Racone. I emailed them for prices. Thanks for posting.
Rattyxj00,
We have Trunk Vaults in the back of our Tahoes (TruckVault - Vehicle Cargo Secure Storage Solutions). They have standard version for different vehicle types, and will also build custom version to your specs. They are rather expensive, but very nice.
Cool i hadn't seen those, thx Dantalion and jbmoose, thx as well-it's a 2000-about to be lifted, I might add!
