Uvitalik - I got a great deal on a Kahles 16i - firesafe price of $1200 from a guy who needed cash badly - very happy with this scope!

this. after researching a ton of options, and almost pulling the trigger on a NF, i still went with an elcan.

IIRC, it weighs about 4oz less than the NF setup i was looking at.

i've run a 1-4x on my AR for nearly a decade and have never had an issue. 1.5-6x just made sense for me on the 17.

Everybody whines about the Elcan weight, but the 1.5x6 weighs 5 ounces more than your current rig with that magnifier. A dot sight plus magnifier usually comes in over 20 ounces compared with the 25.8 of the Elcan.

I enjoy mine; crystal clear optics, NV compatible and solidly built.

Not to go OT but does the Kahles 16 also feature FFP or just SFP?

    FullAssault,

Like you set up. Nice and simple.
What color is your Elcan? Is that the stock FDE color?

It's FDE. The FDE color tends to vary from a wet sand to a earthworm brown & bronze

I've got the same Elcan on my 17 and it's an awesome optic, compact and very clear. I had the 1.5x6 elcan and went with the 1x4 fde elcan instead. The 17 is a battle rifle not a sniper rifle anyway. I'll leave the big and long optics for my bolt rifles.

Personally I don't think it's worth it for the price and weight. There are variety of setup out there that are better suited for what civilian shooters use the rifle for. I run a March Tactical 1-10x and ADM mount that weight about the same as an Elcan 1.5-6x but 1k cheaper and more magnification. Can easily and reliably hit out to 600 yds, and maybe 1000 yds (I haven't tried with the 17s).

Have the power still to banish your defenders; till at length your ignorance, which finds not till it feels, making but reservation of yourselves, still your own foes, deliver you, as most abated captives to some nation that won you without blows!"
