    Elcan Specter DR opinion

    Hi everyone.
I currently have a Aimpoint ML3 and Eotech magnifier combo on my scar 17.
I've been eyeing Elcan Specter DR, it is much more expensive, but is it worth the money?

It definitely is a nice scope the Elcan DR and they are very durable.. It is expensive one but you get what you pay for. If you shop around you can find a very good deal on one. Try Kerif optics. Speak to the actual owner and he will work on price.

Depends what you plan on using it for? The are plenty of optic options out there that are much cheaper depending on your desired use. Ken at Kerif Nite Vision offers a pretty good deal to forum members if you tell him your a member.

I almost bought one the other day and someone at the local gun shop talked me out of it. He said the battery compartment has been know to fall off if hit hard and something about some people have reported flickering reticles. He also was trying to sale me a acog though lol, i want to like them its just i cant see the reticle and the chevron just looked like a red smear to me.

Mike was built like a tank - but heavy as a brick. I sold it and moved to a lighter weight (and far less expensive) optic.

+1 for both the Specter and Kerif. That part about battery compartments falling off...I've never heard that. And the flickering....never heard of that either. The plain jane reticle without illumination is etched, so it won't flicker...I assume they mean the illumination? Never had a problem with it.

But it is heavy and expensive. I decided to go the gym more and buy once, cry once.

I've had 3 over the years and they all have been great optics! I seriously doubt the battery compartment falling off, these things are very well built and if there is a problem it is taken care of very quickly. As for actually using it it's not going to be as fast as your AP (think of it as a 4x with a 1x option) but the glass is going to be extremely clear.

Just an FYI the elcan is heavy but is typically lighter and much smaller than the typical 1-4,5,6 and mount.
