I have a bunch of stuff in a few bugout containers - I've had soem stuff for years, but I have been expanding my inventory recently.
I bought 1 of those 1 burner camp stoves at Wal-Mart - and it can run on camp fuel and/or unleaded gas.
Anyway, I bought 1 gallon of the Coleman campe fuel.
Question - how long does this last? I know gasoline goes bad in a few months. This isn't gasoline per se - but I don't know what the storage life is.
There is no date or info on the container of this camp fuel, however. I assume this is similar to a gallon of lighterfluid?!
Anyone know?
You can put some Sta-bil into your gasoline and it will last years.Originally Posted by ShipWreck
Its a fuel stabilizer and its in a pink bottle at Walmart.
I'm used it in many of my sports cars in the past for storage and one was in storage for years, started and ran on that tank of gas just fine![]()
Yea, I knew that was an option - didn't know exactly how long this extended the gas, though. Good to know.
But, I'm curious about this camp fuel....
I have it in my gas since the EVO is in storage![]()
Sta-bil is great stuff![]()
I had it in one of my p-cars for two FULL years. Started up like a champ on the first try. Only reason I even took it out of storage was because I was afraid of an oil leak(RMS Failure).
I'm about to take the EVO out since its getting nice out. Crank up the BOOST and let that sucker scream. 4g63 FTW!! I took my bike out today....man it was nice![]()
I've convinced myself that coleman 'white gas' is exactly the same thing as gasoline, maybe with some stabilizer in there. I've been running camp stoves and lanterns on regular gasoline my whole life with no troubles.
And I've used some really old nasty Coleman fuel from a rusty tin in a multi-fuel stove.
I want to show you my current bugout stove:

I love it so much my girlfriend is actually jealous.

Ship, to answer your original question about coleman fuel shelf life:
http://www.coleman.com/coleman/faq/f...sp?question=19
5 -7 years if stored unopened in a dry area.
About 2 years if open.
I bought several gallons of Coleman fuel before Y2K I decided to test my lanterns out so I opened a can marked 1-1-99 and it was perfectly clear. worked great I also use Coleman fuel in my lawn mowers before I put them up for the year. Coleman fuel is the same as what they used to call white gas it is refined more and doesn't have all the materials in it the gums up. That is why it is so clear when you look at it. I believe Coleman's storage data is more for the container then the fuel as it shouldn't make a difference whether it is stored in a dry location or not when sealed in a can, but the cans do start to rust through if not in a dry area. Now propane has no expiration date it will always outlast the container.
