Also, regarding mag release buttons, the button from the 509 - which is wider (from side to side on the gun) and has a more pronounced pattern on its surface -- can also be installed in a FNSc as well as a FNS or FNX.
I just put in a full sized frame magazine release in my new FNS .40 Compact. I was having problems getting the magazines to drop (12 or 14 round) and thought it was my little finger interfering with the magazine. While cleaning both today, after a range session I noticed the Compact has a shorter magazine release than the full sized pistol. I got out the spare parts kit I bought from CDNN ($40 for everything but the frame) and it had the larger/longer full sized frame magazine release button. Didn't take anytime at all to replaces the shorter Compact magazine release with the longer full sized frame unit. Works slick as can be now. It wasn't my little finger. It was my thumb being too big around to push that short little button down inside the frame to get the magazines to drop.
First upgrade to my new FNS Compact.
MGW is out of stock on the full size FNS release, but they have the 509 release in stock, so I’m wondering how different the two are before possibly going that route, or waiting for new inventory.
Hey folks I need some advice on my FNS9 long slide I guess you call it because it has a 5 in. barrel. Well today I was trying to clean it but I could not get the slide to come off the frame. So I just ran the snake through the barrel. I did what was by the book but slide would only move forward about 1/4 " but no further. So if any of you have any ideas your help would be appreciated.
Remove the magazine.
Make sure the chamber is empty.
Make sure the striker is cocked and the safety off (if it has thumb safeties).
Point it downward at the floor and pull the trigger.
When the trigger pull releases the striker the slide should move forward off the rails of the frame. Should.
I have one that drags on something and sometimes it has to be used a little harder than you'd think. But when I push it that second time it makes a clicking noise and the slide moves forward/off the frame rails.
I never really sat down and tried to figure out what it sometimes hangs on, but it does come off.
