Post CZ Bren 1 + 2 - The Czech SCAR compared to the Real Thing

    I love SCAR’s, currently have a 16S and a 17S. Absolutely awesome rifles.

I’d love to have a factory 16S with a shorter barrel, such as an ~11”....

... so with that in mind, is anyone here familiar with the Czech SCAR, the CZ Bren...?

CZ offers factory Bren pistols with something like 8”, 12” and 14” barrels. Since the gun appears to run similarly, with almost identical ergonomics, it seems like a natural second choice behind a factory short SCAR.

Buying a short factory gun has some benefits over modifying a 16” 16S:

    - Prevents having to have someone cut down a SCAR barrel
    - Prevents having to SBR that short SCAR
    - Simple to sell if FN was to later come out with a short SCAR

I’m just not sure of the true quality of the CZ, especially as compared to the SCAR.

I believe in FN, I think they make awesome equipment, superior quality of engineering and manufacture, and that nothing beats an FN. They just don’t sell a SCAR in the configuration that I’m looking for, so I’d definitely appreciate any knowledge that you guys can pass on with regard to CZ and the Bren, specifically.

CZ has Bren’s in military circulation which is great - but I don’t know how much of that is automatic (such as, the Czech military MUST use Czech weaponry) versus truly deserved.

    Thanks guys.

Bren 805 quality is good. Bren 2 is a product improvement of the 805. I have not seen the results of any military trials. I have the both SCAR's and the 805 and Bren 2s. Build quality is good and the actions of the CZ's are smoother. Bren 2s is the smoothest.
Bren 2s has the barrel lengths you mention above but the 7.62x39 comes in 9", 11" and 14". So far, only Bren 2s pistols have made it to the US market. CZ-USA says BREN 2 MS, the main version to be released for our market are in country - they have not been released. We dont know if all that are pistols or if there are any carbines with them.
Suspect many questions will be answered at Shot Show.
Also, I assume Shot Show will have info about the Semi Bren 2 BR (Battle Rifle) in .308. It has a different upper and lower than the Bren 2s and the Bren 2 MS.
CZ seems to be on the move - lots of interesting products.

    Interesting, thank you.

Glad to hear the quality of the CZ is good. That’s a big factor for me. I am into HK’s, FN’s and so on. I like the quality and attention to detail.

Did you pick up one of the Bren 2 pistols that were briefly for sale? I would have wanted one of those but they were gone by the time I found out.

Any other comments in comparison between the SCAR and Bren 2?

I like FN's and have HK's too. I am no longer interested in HK as it does not support civilian ownership of its Semi versions of their military products as they do in Europe.
That said, CZ is building quite good products and they are interested in the North America market - they have my support.
I had a couple years if very intense effort in my work and, like you, came late to the Bren 2s Pistol availability realization. I was able to pick up one, 14" barrel in 5.56.

There were only 300 units imported of the Bren 2s pistol - they came in in two calibers with four barrel lengths. The Bren 2 MS is semi and available in Europe now, it is the version CZ-USA has in country now - Shot Show should provide more information.
Some of these are listed on dealer websites but nothing is available.
I've pooled the funds and I am ready for purchase.

Nice grab. That’s exactly what I am looking for - a Bren 2 in either an 11” or 14” barrel length. Well done.

I Google the US release date pretty regularly, but all I can seem to find is “2019”. Don’t know if that’s early/middle/late, or what.

If it’s going to be later, I may try something else in the mean time, such as a PWS.

And, if you’re somewhat nearby, we should hook up for shootin’.

My 11" 805 is rock solid. Definitely chunkier than my 16 but lacks nothing and has been 100% reliable.

A member of another forum said he spoke with Cz-USA. They are working on Bren 2 922r kits. No information about when the kits would be complete or released.
i would like a carbine with the Bren 2 Stock or a kit for the pistol to SBR it.

Here is a Larry Vickers produced video - pure gun porn - no useful information:

He says the Bren 2 has an extruded upper, it does not. He makes a couple of other mistakes in the presentation.

Interesting that the Bren 2 isn't even listed on the CZ-USA site.

The Bren 2 is only listed in the Military/Law Enforcement Section of the USA site.

Not only do you not currently see Bren 2 MS on the USA site, you will not see the 805 there now either. They still are supplying parts for the 805.

Try this site, this has been released in Europe:
