    Rear sight aperture options?

I think the rear sight aperture on my 16 reflects too much light (finish is too glossy) and the peep hole is too small, rendering the sight pretty much unusable in certain [low] light conditions, otherwise with the right light it is forgivable. Are there any aperture replacements (I'd rather not replace the entire sight)? What about drilling the peep out a little?

There are two apertures on the rear sight. Use the larger one for low light situations.

As for the glossy finish, I'd use a little flat black paint or the old smug soot on the aperture trick.

    +1

The rear aperture is a little L-shaped piece that pivots, allowing 2 different aperture sizes.

If you don't plan to switch between the two aperture settings, you can get some little rubber inserts that fit into the larger aperture and give you a better sight picture. They're made from a company but can't recall the name. I think the product is called "tech sights". Takes a small effort with a razor blade to make it fit, but has improved my sighting ability greatly at long range. If I find the link then I will repost here.

Here it is: Tech-SIGHTS Precision Shooting Accessories

Its the IRAS system, but you only need the little $2.50 rubber inserts. There are 3 sizes #4, #6, or #8 depending on amount of light that you want to allow through the aperture.

How do you flip the aperture? It almost seems like the small aperture is locked in place.

Contrary to popular belief, I know exactly what I'm doing.
