Don't use NVG with the FN57

I was looking at the huge flash the ss197 and ss195 displayed during firing at the range and it made me realize this would trip the 'safety' on most if not all gen2 or higher NVG's. Why are they using such high flash powder?

Bad enough in dim light, this will blind ya for at least 3-4 seconds if used with NVG and possibly fry it if it lacks the safety feature.

I'll have to try it in person with my gear, but daaamn. There goes my house clearing setup. (Rifle with IR Laser / headmount NVG setup). :-D

Yeah, the FiveseveN does look like a fire breathing dragon when fired. I have some rounds that produce a mushroom shaped cloud because of the load. :-D

BTW, they DO use a low falsh pistol powder (Urenco??) for these rounds.

That would make the weapon even longer and bigger though. Just kind of bummed that it does make the huge flash. I really want to stick with the platform for carry and HD, but this puts a strainer on things.

I'll have to try it in the dark one day at the range and then with the NV on.

I am just wondering if you are dim? The 5.7x28 is a rifle round to begin with, not a pistol round. If you shoot it out of the P90 it does not overflash like quoted above. The excess powder has time to burn as its going down the longer barrel. 4" v. 8" makes a huge difference in burn time and flash produced. Seriously think about it before posting something like this.

Not a good way to start.
